Mirabelle plum
Did you know?
In the 20th century, a vast epidemic destroyed the vineyards of Lorraine, devastating the region. Farmers decided to plant mirabelle plum trees to replace the vines!
The Mirabelle plum is a variety of small yellow plum that is native to China. It was introduced to Europe in the 15th century by René I, Duke of Anjou and Lorraine. Sweet and fragrant, this small golden fruit is the emblematic fruit of Lorraine, which, with some 400,000 Mirabelle plum trees, accounts for 70–80% of world production.
At Vitabio, we exclusively use Mirabelle de Lorraine PGI (Protected Geographical Indication).
